Divine Design

When I pray you answer me, YOU encourage me by giving me the strength I need.  ~ Psalm 138:3

I was really proud of Our Daily Bread for asking their amazing design team submit favorite verses for 2 special Scripture sets.  I ordered both sets, and I chose to use Psalm 138:3 this month for Divine Design. This beautiful scripture had been submitted by my friend Angel, Divine Design co-hostess this year. Isn’t that a beautiful promise to meditate on? Angel, thank you for sharing that.

I remember when my oldest daughter was 4 years old, and learned one of her first memory verses for her Sunday School classes. The teacher didn’t attach the reference to their memory work, but the verse was ‘Jesus gives us what we need’. I see this as the grown up rendition of that promise. Pray to Him. He will answer. He will give me the strength I need.

I received this beautiful Memory Box paper from the Butterfield line as a gift, and I knew it would be perfect to add to my hanging album of Scriptures. I had to be careful because I didn’t want to cover up the flight of the butterflies. I enhanced it with Martha Stewart butterfly punches and rhinestones. The verse is stamped on Pink Pirouette cardstock and layered on Willow Dark Prism, cut with Nestabilities Lables 3. One of the swirls from my Unity Kit of the Month is tucked behind the Scripture panel on the upper left.

Thanks for stopping by. Please take minute to look at what other Divine Designers Angel, Jami Bova, and Taylor VanBruggen have shared today. I know you will be blessed by their artwork and their sharing. I think Nancy will be sharing tomorrow.  If you would like to post your creations and share and Splitcoast, please use keyword BVC09. I’ll see you tomorrow with the Weekend Sketch.

Just For Fun: Neighborhood of Simplicity

jff-0309-lcraig-a.jpg

It’s Just For Fun today! A little challenge with my gal pals, Alli, Carole, Julie, Michele and our special guest this month, Sharon. We’re giving a little love to Unity today. I had fun selecting this stamp is called Neighborhood of Simplicity, from the Pixie Lane stamp set. Love this little row of cottages. You know there’s one in every neighborhood, right? The one who bucks the system and ignores the home owner’s association guidelines? They paint their house some wild, wild color while everyone else follows the rule with beige, beige or beige.  Michele picked the paper, Eye Candy from Bloom and Grow Collection, My Mind’s Eye. Loved how these worked together.

I’m hanging with Sharon and Jenn today. Good stampin’ friends…who don’t mind that my house stands out. Love my Splitcoast girlfriends.

Leave a Trail

unity-path-a-lcraig-031509.jpg

I tried to make good on Jen‘s Sketch for You to Try last night. I promise. You can see the sketch here, and when you peek – just know that the bottom rectangle gave me FITS! That layer screamed ‘sentiment!’ to me, and I had that covered with my focal image. Since this is for a guy, I didn’t want to gussy it up too much, know what I mean? After much gnarling and gnashing of teeth, ‘it is what it is’.

path-lcraig-031509.jpg

I used ‘Leave a Trail‘ by Unity for my main image.  I did have to omit the credit (Ralph Waldo Emerson – sorry Ralph!) and the word ‘and’ from my project so that it would fit into my oval layer. An embossing folder for texture on the Willow Green Dark Prism for a leafy background, a little stitching, this gorgeous Beaux Regards trim that I got from sweet Cindy at StarLitStudio and some Real Red Martha Stewart butterflies are the basics. I finished it off with some brads to make that rectangle layer 😉 and some zigzag stitching.  Finished card size: 6×6.

I got to stamp A LOT yesterday, and I cannot wait to show you what I’ve got for tomorrow! Have a great Sunday!

I lived a whole month yesterday….

justbe.jpg

Ever had one of those days where you lived a whole month inside 18 hours? That was yesterday…It was sheer craziness: work, back & forth to 2 schools, errands, appointments, teacher conferences,  multiple committee commitments, a new Product Focus Review published at Splitcoast. church meetings and all those fun little things that the hubby considers right up there with bon-bons on the couch – you know: laundry, feeding the children, making the beds, finding time for a shower….I need a vacation!

I had started this card for today’s Way’s to Use It Challenge, hosted by my friend, Michele Boyer, over at Splitcoast a few days ago. Julie Campbell created a DARLING sample, as well.  I was channeling ‘balcer‘, and used a little Splitcoast green.  I finished it up while watching Idol on DVR at midnight. (I can’t even pick a favorite yet because I love several of them A LOT!  Go Danny, Go Adam, Go Lil, Go Megan, Go Kris!) I used Splitcoast green to accent my new Unity Stamps.

Today, I want to ‘just be‘. I’ll let you know how that works out…tomorrow.

I Call Him Friend

calls-me-friend-lcraig-011309b.jpg

I’ve had this card on my mind since Patter Cross sent me this beautiful image that she designed, Almighty God from Unity.  I also needed to use my nested birds. I was glad that the color challenge worked for the concept that was rolling around in my head.

As I’m typing this post, I had a phone visit with a good friend who was suddenly widowed far to young five years ago. Death is never easy, and by nature of our relationship being a small couples group that met twice a month for dinner and a Bible Study, this was especially difficult for both my husband and I. There were so many issues, feelings, hurts to be prayed over relating to the loss, and because we are in our thirties, I began praying almost immediately for God to prepare a strong man who would one day marry my friend and take her precious children as his own, all five of them. It would be in His time, I was sure of that. But I wanted God to be preparing the heart of this man then. In that time we had to rely on the names of Jesus: Master, Comforter, Saviour, Redeemer, All Mighty, All Knowing.

calls-me-friend-lcraig-011309.jpg

The phone call this morning was to share the news that God has answered my prayer.  I kind of chuckle when I say ‘my’ because I know that it has been the prayer of many. I don’t want to in anyway claim it as ‘mine’. It was a wonderful phone call, full of joy and I’m so very excited for her. Wes and I both are. However, if I’m honest, I felt some sadness. I shed a tear. I was swept back to that awful day, that dark time and it hit me as I stared at this card – the same same Saviour that has watched over her and her life, the same Saviour that brought her through a dark storm is the same Saviour that will carry her on with grace and beauty. He does that for those who know Him, those who love Him and those who call Him, Friend.

The bird is from Spellbinders – their nested birds  – I get my Spellbinders products from Ms. Ellen. I cut the bird body from the middle die and then 2 ‘wings’ from the smallest die. (I learned that trick from Ms. Sharon.) If you look really carefully at the top wing die-cut, you might see where I clipped his beak and rounded it out to form the wing shape. Of course, you don’t have to clip the back wing because the beak doesn’t show.  I used the Scalloped Squares and the Nested Squares to create a ‘frame’. I love how that turned out. The ‘I call Him Friend’ was generated on the computer.

I’m 2 for 2 on the Splitcoast Challenges this week? Will you find some time to play this week?
