a life she loved

I’ve been getting ready for a new year of coloring and Copic classes. My friend Kathy Racoosin is hosting a 30-day color challenge, and I felt like there was nothing better to prep for my classes in St. Louis the first weekend in March! If you are in the St. Louis area, come see me!

This is a Taylored Expressions image from the set When Your Heart Speaks. Love.

This is an image that was in a faces and hair class that Copic offered several years ago, and I thought she’d be a great sample in my class portfolio. I colored this for day 2. Braided hair is so fun! Her hair is done with the E30 Copic family. The darker skin complexions are a bit of a challenge for me, and I know practice is the only way I’ll get better – here I used E01 (because I can’t find my E11!!) E13 and E15 for her skin.

This was for day 3. I used a loved stamped set from Taylored Expressions called A Life She Loved. I may end up coloring one more from this set and framing a little tryptic for my crafty office. Coloring glass is something we tackle in our Clothing and Accessories Copic Class.

This little lady from MFT Stamps has been inked on my desk for a few years. I colored her yesterday morning for Day 5. Such a cutie! Her hair is also colored with the E30s family, but her skin is much lighter complexion. I’ve used E51, E21 and E000 (my secret weapon Copic facial concealer!)

My parents are visiting this weekend, but I got up this morning and colored this poppy image from Stampin’ Up! before we get busy with some errands and hanging out… I love a Saturday when I’m busy hanging out! Don’t you!? Coloring Flowers with Copic is a new class that we are offering this year, and I’m looking forward to teaching that in St. Louis, as well!

Deer Tag and Blaze Orange

I was out of town over the weekend teaching my last set of Copic classes until after the New Year, but I wanted to share this card that I created this card for Dina’s final challenge of Hope You Can Cling To! It’s a layout that I’ve done before, but I had fun adding the hunter’s orange to the background. It’s deer season here, and everyone has his or her tags. We are ready! (The deer stamp is Stampin’ Up! and the tag is Designer Mini Tags from Taylored Expressions.)

And my final card to share with you for Hope You Can Cling To was for my own challenge, and I wanted folks to incorporate roses. I used Rose Builder stencil from My Favorite Things and the Copic Airbrush System.

The airbrush is easy to use, and I love it with stencils. For this stencil, I use post-it notes to mask off the sections of the stencil that I don’t want to you and to protect around the edges of the stencil for overspray. These roses are large enough that you can concentrate ink in the center of your flower for depth! Easy!

Play it Again

I made this for a friend during Dare to Get Dirty at Splitcoast last week, but I’ve been plagued with internet issues for what seems like months. I really should have mailed it to myself.

I dusted off one of my oldest stamp sets – Nice and Easy Notes from Stampin’ Up! (1996) and gave it some new life with Copic, dies and fresher embellishments.

I think that’s the hallmark of a good stamp set – timeless image and message. So fun to play it again!

Kindness Matters

Happy Saturday! This is my card for Holly’s Hope You Can Cling To challenge. Fun one, for sure!

One thing I realized while making this card is that I have entirely too many pads of patterned paper. Many may or may not be unused… Maggie Holmes paper by Crate. Fun and easy card to make.

Oh DEER!

Loved Teresa Kline’s Splitcoaststampers Dare to Get Dirty challenge today…

This stamp is a favorite. It comes from a Christmas set (Remembering Christmas – SU!) but if you have a deer hunter in your life, you know it is a year around activity. We are always checking trail cameras, moving deer stands, checking on crops in the deer stand vicinity, making jerky, washing camo clothing… all. year. long!

Still plenty of time for you to join us in Dare to Get Dirty … and so many challenges to get your creative spirit moving. This is seriously my most productive card making week of the year, and it always seems so easy. 🙂

Autumn Blessings…

It’s my turn to host a fun Dare to Get Dirty challenge for our Fan Club at Splitcoaststampers! I’m so excited!

It couldn’t be one of my favorite things without Copic markers – used here over patterned paper with a beautiful floral image from Bloom with Hope stamp set – both sets Stampin’ Up! Then I pulled out my beloved (seriously one of my all-time favorites!) Etruscan (long since retired – sad. sad. sad.) and went to town with Soft Suede Stampin’ Up! ink. Love the krafty look to that color of ink. Finally, I ruffled crepe paper by stitching loosely on my sewing machine and then pulling the top thread to pucker and pleat it around the image layer and added a few sequins. Had so much fun making this one!

Rest, Renewal and Rain

Just a few more cards to clean out my Virtual Stamp Night stack… This was probably my favorite. The challenge was the Journey song, Don’t Stop Believin’…

I used Forever in Bloom and Rest & Renewal, both from Taylored Expressions. The hydrangea blooms are stamped both behind the sentiment layer and on the sentiment label in a softer violet color. Those are paired with some older Basic Grey papers and a few things odds and ends basket on my desk…like the kraft die cut doily and the old library card die cut label.

Not too long ago, I went on a surge with all of my label and doily dies, random pieces of paper and my die machine. I cut a lot of little pieces that I keep in a little plastic basket on my desk. Makes for some speedy cards. 🙂

The seam binding was dyed with a V28 Copic Marker. You can do this one of two ways: 1) put the seam binding and a few drops of Various ink in a little plastic bag and swish it around or 2) color directly on the seam binding from the marker tip. This time, I was only doing a short amount of seam binding and I colored directly from the marker to the seam binding. Easy.

This card was for a challenge called Journey to the Sea. I used Stampin’ Up! sets, The Open Sea and Kindness Matters for this quick and easy. The paper flower came from a set that I’ve had for *years*… I need to clean out my cabinets a little more often. 🙂

We had a beautiful and peaceful Fourth of July here last night. No fireworks because of the lack-of-rain and high temps, but a fabulous dinner with friends just the same. We do not farm, but I’ve been working with my girls and trying to teach them that we are all a team, and the lack of rain affecting our area farmers actually ends up affecting our whole community. The corn here is very dry, so we are praying for rain to come quickly. Feel free to join us. 🙂

This morning, my youngest daughter and I are going to be delivering Meals on Wheels. I always enjoy doing that…Maybe I’ll take a few pictures for our Project Life album.

Weekend Sketch 91

For the first time EVER, I was packed up early for CHA, and had an opportunity to stamp for the Weekend Sketch Challenge before I left for Florida on Monday. I found the sketch so easy to work with and it came together quickly. Stampin’ Up! only! Can you believe it?

I’m sure you’ve all read lots and lots of CHA reviews and recaps by now. This was the smallest CHA show floor that I’ve been to, but I still don’t think I saw everything. I tend to spend a lot of time visiting. Loved seeing all of our Splitcoast friends. I also liked the October Afternoon and Cosmo paper that is coming, but I didn’t have a chance to see several favorites, like Basic Grey . We’re getting ready to head over to the CHA SuperShow for consumers in a few minutes. We’ve got cupcakes, and we’re ready to visit and do make & takes with our Splitcoast Friends. 🙂

WSC71: SUO – Friend in Me

I received an order from the new Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini last week. I loved opening that box. When I think I about paper crafting, Stampin’ Up! was my ‘first love‘. A coordinated palette, beautiful accessories, wonderful wood mounted stamps. For old times sake, I thought I’d try my hand at a SU Only card, as many SU demos call it, for the Weekend Sketch Challenge – being hosted by sweet Jenn this week. You can see the sketch by clicking on Jenn’s name. It was fun, but I had to alter it just a tad. Jenn knows I don’t do angles.

The tree stamp is from a new, cute little set called Forest Friend, and the sentiment is from my 24-7 wheel that I ripped apart after seeing this post by Jody. (It was too easy, slap on some cling mount and rock on. Jody’s my hero.) The patterned paper is also from the upcoming mini, and it’s called A Walk in the Park. Accented with the Top Note Die and a few baubles from the Pretties Kit, I pulled this together all while watching the Texas Tech Red Raiders lose their opportunity for a Big 12 Championship last night. 🙁

I can’t wait to see which of them went truly off-kilter and stuck with the angled sketch. I’ll be back in an hour or two – I’m putting the finishing touches on another post. Divine Design: Patience

My Divine Design post is late this month, but the beauty of this challenge is that you can play along any time. I do plan to be more timely next month, but please jump in when you can.

I have several different Bibles that I have used or will use from time to time depending on what I’m studying, where I’m at in the house or which one I have left in my car for the car-rider line at the schools. Of all the copies we have in our home, it always warms my heart to thumb through my husband’s Bible. He has 2. One is a Study Bible and the other is a smaller pocket Bible that he carries on trips. When I bought the smaller one, I traced my hand and both of the girls hands into the front cover with a very short love note.

Several days ago, I had Wes’s Bible on my desk, and I was searching for an answer to a question that’s troubled me for months. It’s not an overwhelming, major issue and I know that it will work out, but over time I’ve found myself reacting in various ways, mainly rooted in pride because I can’t seem to fix it all on my own right this minute. I landed in Ecclesiastes. These 2 verses spoke to me and that situation – I can hear the Lord saying, “I know the end of this road, Lori. Stay on course. Your patience and faith in my timing is far better than anything you could force here. Let go of your pride. I know you desire to see answers quickly, but I see the big picture here.” I’m committing this one to memory.

As for your husband’s Bible, if he doesn’t have one, even if he’s not a regular reader yet, don’t give up on him – there’s a perfect day this week to present one. <wink> I can’t think of a better way to say, ‘I Love You – you are precious to me.’
