Falling for You

falling-for-you-lcraig-111008.jpg

Kim Hughes, meet 7gypsies! 🙂 Here’s a card that I created using a 7gypsies tag from StarLitStudio and my Kim Hughes, Falling for You set from CHF. It was fun to use actual ink colors and stamp.

It’s a busy, busy day around here, but I’ll be posting again tomorrow. 🙂

  • Stamps: Falling for You – Kim Hughes Collection (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstock: Spring Willow Medium (Prism), Mellow (Basic Grey) & Journaling Tag ( 7gypsies from StarLitStudio)
  • Ink: Espresso, Pale Blue, Cranberry, Ginger, Currant Adirondack (Ranger)
  • Accs: Brad (Basic Grey), flower (petalou)

WSC65: Bird Watching

wsc65-lcraig-110708.jpg

So we do a little more than ‘watching’… I knew from first glimpse that this Saturday Evening Post image would be coming to my house. Honestly, it will be perfect for most of cards that my husband requests for his own use, like this one. He needed a thank you, and got a little frustrated this morning when it took longer than 10 minutes. I said, ‘hey, if you can sit out there ALL DAY LONG for 6 birds, you can give me more than 10 minutes for one card!’

I struggled with Beate’s sketch, but finally re-worked the orientation and settled here. I added score lines on the bottom, the sentiment and the double stitching in the lower right corner to give it some balance. The clock from Time to Stamp was stamped behind the flower to keep with the sketch. I pushed the froo-foo envelope as far as I thought I could get away with, all things considered. 🙂

I’m sure that Sharon, Mary Jo, Jenn, Charmaine, Cambria and Beate have struggle-free treats in store for you today. I’m excited to see what they did with the double circle element in the sketch. Have a great Friday!

  • Stamps: Bird Watching – Saturday Evening Post collection & Time to Stamp (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstock: Spring Willow Dark, Suede Medium Brown & Super Smooth Vanilla (Prism)
  • Ink: Latte and Espresso Adirondack (Ranger)

Holiday Blitz

landing-pad-lcraig-103008.jpg

Today kicks off a full week of Holiday Blitz tutorials over at Splitcoaststampers. Beate was kind to ask me to write 2 Nestabilities tutorials for the SCS Resource section that go live today. Nestabilities from Spellbinders are one of my go to tools for quick and easy WOW! Here, I’ve used the Label One die-cut and a Wizard embossing mat for a dry embossed image. See the Embossed Frame tutorial HERE.  You can view the Cutting Shapes tutorial HERE. Other tutorials throughout the week will feature packaging and giftable ideas that you may use throughout the holiday season.

Wizard vs. Cuttlebug

I have been using a Cuttlebug to cut my Nestabilities for the last year, and I get fabulous results. If fact, the Spellbinders dies are universal, and Spellbinders provides a comprehensive list of ‘sandwich’ recipes required to use their dies in other die-cut machines. You can find that list HERE.

That said, I used the Wizard die-cut machine to write these tutorials, and when it comes to the crisp embossed edging that are a Spellbinders trademark, there is NO COMPARISON. The Wizard creates the most beautiful crisp, detailed dry embossed edges. Anyone need a Cuttlebug? 😉

This one layer card would be fairly simple to duplicate in mass. The elements from Kim Hughes’ set ‘The Landing Pad’ are stamped onto patterned paper, cut out and applied to the cardfront with dimensional dots. Tip: I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the birdhouse so that the hole to the house was in the center of my patterned paper wreath. To apply the Pindot background, I simply cut a mask from the Label One die out of notebook paper and placed it over the embossed shape. Then I stamped the Pindot Scrapblock from Cornish Heritage Farms in white pigment ink.

Be sure to check out all the tutorials throughout the week, a new one each day! I’m sure even the most seasoned stamper will find an ah’ ha! moment, some tips and a few tricks tucked into each project.

I’ve got a day full of errands, odds & ends and cleaning here at the Craig house. I’m hoping to sneak a little stamping time in later this afternoon! Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Stamps: Landing Pad – Kim Hughes Collection & Pindot Scrapblock (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstrock: Kraft (Prism), Wassail paper (Basic Grey, brown polka dot patterned paper (Prima Marketing)
  • Ink: Espresso & White Pigment Adirondack (Ranger)
  • Accs: Wizard Die-cut Machine, Label One Nestabilities (both by Spellbinders),  Ribbon (May Arts), Stamp-a-ma-jig, glitter and button

WSC64: Sympathy’s Song

wsc64-lcraig-103108.jpg

Probably my favorite Stampin’ Up! set ever, Natural Beauty, was my go to set this morning. I think it will be in my collection forever.  I’ll be sending this to some friends at church today. I’ll hope it brings a sense of comfort.

wsc64b-lcraig-103108.jpg

Beate’s sketch went together quickly today. That was probably out of necessity as it’s another crazy Friday. I’m anxious to check out Sharon, Mary Jo, Laurie, Jenn, Charmaine, Cambria and Beate to see what they’ve thrown together today. 🙂

I’m going to leave you with the details. The label was created by inking the actual label die with Pearlescent Brilliance ink before cutting and embossing. This gives you a ‘frame’ so to speak where the dry embossed edge is. The bird was colored with Copics and AirBrushed with Copic RV10. I have to run, so if you have any questions, please leave me a comment and I’ll be sure to answer you.

  • Stamps: Aged Music Scrapblock (Cornish Heritage Farms) & Natural Beauty (Stampin’ Up!)
  • Cardstock: Simply Smooth Vanilla (Prism), Close to Cocoa & Chocolate Chip (Stampin’ Up!) and Sultry (Basic Grey)
  • Ink: Espresso Adirondack (Ranger)
  • Accs: Label One & Large Rectangle Scalloped Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Copic Markers (E31, E33, RV10), Copic Airbrush System, ribbon (Beaux Regards)

Heart Warming

tea-towels-2a-lcraig-060808.jpg

Here is a project that my mom and I teamed up on for the current November/December issue of Crafts & Things. Mom embroidered the designs on this tea towel set, and I finished them off with tags and wraps. The top right towel is wrapping a loaf of bread. It was so fun to work together on this. I hope we can do it again. 🙂 Crafts and Things is full of great ideas with easy to follow step-by-step instructions. You can generally find it at your grocery store or Wal-Mart.

  • Stamps: Heart Warmers – Kim Hughes Collection (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstock: Kraft and light blue/purple (Prism)
  • Ink:  light dye based ink that will wash out after stitching and cleaning
  • Accs: embroidery floss & ribbon (May Arts)

Sympathy Dove

sympathy-dove.jpg

I was looking for a project on my camera tonight, and I found this card that I created several months ago. I don’t think I’ve ever shared it with you. I cannot find it in my archives, nor could I find an edited copy. It’s late, and I’m supposed to be up in 5 hours to face the day. 🙂 So, I’ll be brief! (and apologies if you’ve seen this before!) Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Stamps: Dove with branch & Storybook (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstock: Suede Dark Brown (Prism), K&Company patterened paper (came pre-scalloped!) & die-cut sentiment tag

Blog Jam Copic Give-away

 jam1-lcraig-102108.jpg

Several weeks ago, Sharon mentioned that she was going to make her fabulous Pineapple Jam. I got to thinking about the raspberries that were wasting away on the vines and the peppers still in my garden. So that afternoon, I went out and picked my berries and peppers for Raspberry Pepper Jam and made it that night.  Here is the recipe that I used, and I just added 6 diced jalapeno peppers (seeds removed) to the cooking mixture. Now most folks would like this jam over a brick of cream cheese, and I’ll admit, that’s pretty good. But here’s my very favorite thing to do with Raspberry Jam (homemade or store-bought, with or without the peppers):

Card Creations

joyful-wishes.jpg

Why is it so hard to photograph white? At least you can see the sparkles! This is a project that I had published in the recently released Card Creations from Paper Crafts magazine. So many fabulous cards in this issue, really something for every occasion. Very fun to look through and see of the different styles and ideas.

This little snowman is a fabulous Kim Hughes image, and he’s solid! Generally, snowmen are drawn in line art and then left to color in. That’s fun, but it’s super cool to just stamp this little guy in white and go. Here he’s embossed with iridescent ice emboss powder for shimmer and shine. I’ve accented his belly with black Mark Richards rhinestones and colored his particulars with Copic Markers. The snow was stamped from Kim’s set Bold Curls.

Tip: I’ve just barely brushed the edge of the snowman with my lightest blue Copic marker (B000) to make it POP against the white background. I did the same thing around the edge of the sentiment.

Thanks for looking! I’ll be back tomorrow with another fun Lockhart image.

  • Stamps: Joyful Winter Wishes, Bold Curls – Kim Hughes collection (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstock: Cryogen White, Baby Blue Light & Black (Prism)
  • Ink: Aqua & Black Adirondack (Ranger) & VersaMark (Tsukineko)
  • Accs: Rhinestones (Mark Richards), Copic Marker, White Brads (Paper Studio) & Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, dimensional dots

WCS61: The Crows go Cosmo!

lcraig-blo-img_6860.jpg

Sketch time! Beate has a great sketch this week. I loved the circles.

This crow image from the Primitive Christmas set by Lesley Langdon is so fun! Last night I felt inspired to pair the crows with Cosmo Cricket, Haunted. I omitted the “Merry Christmas” sentiment and opted for ‘Eat your corn’. The scarecrow and ‘eat your corn’ sentiment are from All Things Fall. The paper is from the Cosmo, Haunted line.

I’m anxious to check out Beate, Cambria, Charmaine, Laurie, Mary Jo and Sharon. I just love seeing the different things that everyone does with the sketches.  Have a great weekend!

  • Stamps: All Things Fall & Primitive Christmas (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstock: Black (Prism) & Haunted (Cosmo Cricket)
  • Ink: Black & Peach Bellini Adirondack (Ranger)
  • Accs: brads, twine, ribbon, Nestabilities (Spellbinders)

Sparkle

wcmdfs08-lcraig-100408.jpg

Here’s another card that I had the opportunity to complete over the weekend. The challenge was to make your card ‘sparkle’. My favorite sparkly technique is the Glitter Window, and you can see Beate’s technique tutorial HERE.  Easy, easy, shimmer and shine. All of my pearls are from Mark Richards and KaiserCraft.

snow-window-close-up-lcraig-100408.jpg

It’s a little hard to see the snowflake behind the window in the picture. This technique is always a WOW! Thanks for stopping by!

  • Stamps: Joyeux Noel (Cornish Heritage Farms)
  • Cardstock: Sky, River Rock & Ivory
  • Ink: Aqua Adirondack (Ranger)
  • Accs: packing tape, glitter, pearls, ribbon, Scalloped Rectangle Nestabilities, curvy label punch
