Krafty Christmas and Gift Guide

FF16diniB Lori Craig

This might be my favorite challenge of the Falliday Fest at Splitcoaststampers from our Artist in Residence, Dina Kowal. The challenge was to make a gingerbread themed card using kraft cardstock and white embossing!

This stamp set is called Sweet Christmas – Sunny Day Doodle line from MFT. I’m sure it’s retired, and I can’t part with it, though I can’t remember using it before. I love how this turned out! Easily duplicatable with a MISTI for mass production. Well — thinking about it, I did fussy cut the gingerbread man. Hire a child for that part!

These tags were for Jacqueline’s Falliday Fest challenge – Monogram It! A snowflake stamp and the Flourished Tag Die set from Verve paired up with Sophisticated Script from Concord & 9th made quick work of that challenge! The doily background die is retired from MFT. (I can’t find the packaging and don’t know the name – it is in a set of 4 small doily dies.) I’m going to have the girls help me mass produce these for our family Christmas. Red for the guys and green for girls!

Still a few days left to join the Falliday Fun and play some of the challenges. We do have lots of great prizes up for grabs from our sponsors. We tried something fun and functional this fall and put together our first ever Holiday Gift Guide at Splitcoast – it’s full of special offers and great ideas for holiday shopping for everyone on your list – especially YOU! Take a peek:

SPLITCOASTSTAMPERS HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE!

I’m off to the final marching band competition of the fall season today! My girl sure loves being on the Color Guard, but I’m looking forward to a few Saturdays at home before the busyness of the holidays hits!

Have a beautiful Saturday!

Falliday Feathers

I wanted to share two cards I’ve made for the Falliday Fest at Splitcoaststampers! We’ve partnered with some amazing sponsors for a fun event for October! Still plenty of month left to join us for challenges and inspiration, wonderful card-drive opportunities and prizes!

This was a card that I made for Dina Kowal’s Masquerade challenge. This was a new idea to me, and it was so fun…and easy. I’m definitely going to be trying this technique again! My sentiment came from the Autumn Splendor set from Verve, and the feathers are a die-cut from MFT.

This fun card was for Lydia’s challenge, Start Spreading the News! I used the Give Thanks stamp and die set from Concord and 9th for this one. Love the clean look here. I tied to keep it clean and simple. That is something about Lydia’s style that I really admire: clean and classy!  The woodgrain is an embossing folder from Taylored Expressions.

I’m off to a marching band competition this weekend, but plenty of cards to share in the next few days! Hope you squeeze some crafty into your weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

Give Thanks and Praise

wheat full lori craig

Always feels great to be stamping and creating, don’t you think? We are in the middle of several home projects, but I snuck into the stamp studio yesterday. I had this new wheat themed stamp set called Give Thanks from Concord & 9th on my desk. I’ve seen a lot of beautiful fall themed projects done with this set, but here in the bread basket – wheat is a year around thought. Fun fact: Midwest winter wheat is sewn in the fall and harvested by mid-June.

glue marker lori craig

I felt like my wheat deserved to be glittered up…and I grabbed a X-Press It Glue Marker from Imagination International (I used a medium nib on the left, but love that it comes in a pen tip and wide nib, too!) to add microfine clear glitter to the head of my wheat shocks.  The shocks truly do glisten in the sunshine…

glittered wheat lori craig

I like that the glue marker nib does not leave impressions in my paper or lines of missed coverage. The glue is acid-free, non-toxic, dries clear and best of all (in my opinion) is that it can be both a temporary (like a sticky note it if dries unattached to another piece of paper) or a permanent bond. Good stuff!

thanks praise lori craig

My sentiment comes from a set that the sweet Jen del Muro, owner of Reverse Confetti, gave to me when I had dinner with her in Dallas last month! Love the mix of fonts here. The full set has some beautiful sentiments. It’s called Walk by Faith.

I have several new wheat sets on my desk from various places, so I’ll be playing in the days to come! Thanks for stopping by! Give thanks and praise!

Concord & 9th Wish and Winner

C&9 September close

As Concord & 9th‘s birthday month comes to a close, I wanted to share my giveaway winner and this fun card that I made last week. Loving the ROYGBIV lately. This is Wildflower again stamped with vivid pink, orange, yellow, turquoise and violet. It’s stamped on a shimmer paper from Epson Printers, and them images really pop in real life.

I am thrilled to be back from summer vacations and lazy days to be celebrating something fun with you today! I wish today that we would all take a minute to give a big shout-out and crazy moment (ok… month long moment!) to celebrate the fabulous first birthday of Concord & 9th?  It’s a year that’s flown by, but it’s been full of beautiful, fresh stamp designs and beautiful artwork! Really love the Concord & 9th team! Class-act!

When the Concord & 9th crew asked me to help celebrate, I couldn’t wait to get inky, plus they even game me a $20 gift certificate <keep reading for giveaway details> to share with one of  you. I had to say yes! And to top it off, my friend and cohort at Splitcoast Lydia (THE BIRTHDAY GIRL HERSELF!) has a project and gift certificate to share, as well!

I pulled out a favorite Concord & 9th set in my stash, Wildflower and started stamping…

C&9 partial right lori craig

Actually, I started with blending foam and a beautiful rainbow of Distress Ink Pads to apply vibrant color across a sheet of Ranger Watercolor Paper, and then I stamped images from Concord & 9th’s  Wildflower set and “wish” from one of their earliest sets in Clear Embossing Ink and heat embossed them with white embossing powder. After that I spritzed and dripped H2O across the front for blending and texture drops.

When my rainbow was dry, I added a beautiful accent from Bouquet Die that I cut from white glittered paper over the top and applied a few sparkly sequins.

So fun! Do you know what else is fun? I have a $20 gift certificate to give away to the Concord & 9th store for one lucky reader! (I sure could use it because their newest set, Give Thanks – with a super fun stalk of wheat (swoon!) – became an instant favorite of mine! I’ve already bought mine and it’s en route, so I’ll give the gift card away to one of you!

Leave a comment with what state you live in and how long you’ve been stamping… I’ll draw a winner on Sunday night when I get back from teaching a set of fun Copic Marker Workshop classes in Dallas!

Since summer is officially over around here… look for more regular posting. I never stopped stamping, so I’ve got some fun things to show you in the coming days! Have a good one! ~ Lori

Edit to add: Comments are closed for this give-away! Thank you for entering. I will post winner info soon! Thank you!

You’re Sweet

Concord 9th Youre Sweet Lori Craig

I’ve been stamping up a storm… and loving it!

I made some cards the other day to send to my sister-in-laws for Mother’s Day. Concord & 9th’s Wildflower was perfect! I kept my embellishments to a minimum because the post office has seemed to be so fussy lately with any embellishment additions… a little washi tape to anchor my stamped panel and these were off to the mailbox!

I’m off this week too…on a jet plane…  headed to Sacramento for Copic Certification and Flowers Classes, and then again the first weekend in June when I head to Des Moines to color with my friend Taylor – yes, that Taylor! You can join me for a fun set of Copic Certification and Flowers classes at the Taylored Expressions Studio! Still room in both of these classes before I take a break for summer fun!

I’ll be back tomorrow morning with more stamping! Thanks for stopping by!

Single Layer Salutes

hello one layer lori craig full

On Monday, my famous neighbor Laurie came over to visit for the day… We have a fun time when we get together! I loved playing with the goodies she brought over to show me, like these adorable birds from Concord & 9th – such a fun, newer stamp company run by Greg and Angie ~ the sweetest people ever!

Laurie and I laughed so much that neither of us got much stamping done, but I managed to pull off two quick flat cards that I’m calling single layer salutes and sharing with you today! I know they have multiple layers – but they are monochromatic and have no doo-dads or trim that will trip up the envelope at the post office! 🙂

This first card above uses Concord & 9th’s sweet Birdie Banners – so easy to use. I colored my birdie bodies with Copic, but you don’t have to… it’s got a 2nd step fill in for the body color and the banner options are adorable. I surprised myself by how easy the banners were to line up – the banner fill-ins are a 2nd step stamp, too! The sentiment was stamped with Banner Alpha Bits.

This next card is a little harder to show-off, but it’s lovely. Please trust me on this.  The Bouquet Die is gorgeous! Now I’m wishing I would have cut one in a color to really showoff for the camera while Laurie was here, but you can see it here. I paired the bouquet with ‘lovely’ from Wonderful Words.

lovely close lori craig

I used a sheet of sticker paper to cut my two elements, and then I pieced them together for a seamless look. Very simple, clean and flat for mailing. I love it in white, but would be beautiful in almost any color variation for a mono-chromatic look! Will be adding these dies to my collection and making several more of this design!

I’m a little off of my normal routine today, so mid-afternoon and I’m headed out for a quick jog. It’s a gorgeous (albeit windy!) afternoon here in Kansas, so I’m looking forward to it. Since I’m normally stumbling out of bed at 4:40 and running at 5am, I better make sure all of my clothes are on right-side-out! LOL

Thanks for stopping by today! Be back soon!

love you

various full final lori craig

I had a project that I wanted to share with you today that features Copic Various Ink for vibrant color without coloring!

When I think about Various Ink, my first thought is refillable markers, but used straight from the bottle, the Copic Various Ink is so vibrant… especially on non-porous surfaces, like glossy card stock – used here. I just drip ink refills onto a kraft mat and dab my cardstock into the ink for instant, quick dry, vibrant color, but there are some pointers I can share to help make your efforts eye-popping!

HGTV_Color-Wheel-Full_s4x3.jpg.rend.hgtvcom.1280.960

My first tip for color popping blends is color selection! For combinations that blend well together, select two to three colors that are touching or close to each other on the color wheel. These colors will naturally blend with an eye-please effect. If you choose colors that are directly across from each other (like blue and orange or pink and green), the normal result can be a big mud puddle because colors opposite from each other typically create brown when mixed.

various close lori craig final A

For my card today, I used Copic Various Ink Y08, RV06 and YR04 – yellow, pink and orange. Notice how they are all on the same half of the pie if you slice that color wheel up?

dry-blend-Copic

My next tip is more along the line of know what look you are going for to achieve the desired result, not that either one is right or wrong 100% of the time. 🙂

In the sample above, I dropped ink on the kraft sheet and dipped one color at a time, allowing just a few seconds between colors so that each could set and dry. The dry time is really so, so fast with the Various Ink… This single color at a time method allows for an ink splotch look with distinctive splats of each color.

wet-blend-Copic

In this sample, I dropped all three colors on my kraft mat at the same time and then smooshed my cardstock into the color. The result is a much runnier, more fluid blend of color. I liked this look, too!

Tip: If you don’t have every color of Various Ink that you want to utilize, grab your favorite marker and scribble lightly onto your kraft mat, spritz lightly with blender solution and dip your cardstock.

love you various lori craig final

I accented with die-cut black blooms from Concord & 9th’s new Floral and Flutter die. Love these wispy petals and the dies cut like butter for me. I think I cut about 10 each of the flower and the butterfly, and I didn’t have any rips or half-cuts in the whole bunch!  Finally finished with a ‘love you’ sentiment embossed in black with a simple pearl!

love you. that’s all.

love you lori craig watercolor

I love teaching, and I also love learning new things! Today I am practicing some new-to-me watercolor techniques that I’ve learned at Online Card Classes with the talented Dawn Woleslagle from Wplus9 Design. I’ve not really done much watercolor…at all. So, this was my first attempt at a watercolor background. I thought I’d screw it up, but Dawn’s instruction was great, and I was really happy with the outcome.

watercolor-close

There were a lot of great supply option recommendations, and I realized that I liked the tube watercolors to pan, so for this card I used Prussian Blue and Sap Green Cotman watercolor and a flat brush to create the design. I took the background and added a simple sentiment from a loved Concord & 9th set, Love You. Mean It. I think this works for a great masculine card, and I’m excited to try some other fun backgrounds!

I had the opportunity to meet Greg – half of the fantabulous Concord & 9th leadership team at CHA a few weeks ago. Crafty people are such good people!

The long, cold days have been good for my crafting lately, and I’ve got several things to share over the weeks, so… see you soon! Have a great day!
