A Brush with Destiny

Excited to share a new tool today that I think you’ll love! Several months ago, Taylor shared a new product with me: Blender Brushes specifically formulated for smooth application of stamping ink with handles that are colored in rainbow order for easy ink identification?! YES, PLEASE!

ConGRADulations!

I am thrilled to share a few projects today celebrating the first product release of designer, Heather Nichols for Taylored Expressions! Welcome!

Heather, Taylor and I have been stamping friends for many years, meeting each other at Splitcoaststampers close to 15 years ago! I probably had a little shriek-fest when I learned Heather had  joined the TE team.

The card above features Heather’s new set, The Tassel with The Tassel die. The stars are stamped in Sugar Cube on Cherry Pop cardstock. The mortar board and “celebrate” are stamped in Cherry Pop on Sugar Cube cardstock. My favorite element is the Banner Year die in black cardstock with white Banner Year die cut numbers. A fun, clean design that is easy to customize to nearly any school color combination!

The second card I want to share with you features Heather’s new Feather stamps and sentiments. I’ve always known Heather as her Splitcoast user name, Pine Feather – or Pine for short, so it was no surprise that she’d have this beautiful collection in her inaugural release!

This card features Simply Stamped Feathers and coordinating dies in Salt Water Taffy, Peaches and Cream and Toffee. The sentiment is from the new Wild and Free, and don’t you just love the feather stenciled in the background?

My favorite element of this card is the Shade Tree cutting plate in Toffee cardstock. I cut the trunk off of the tree and turned the die cut on it’s side. Love that vine look up the left side of the card.

Today, I’m very happy  to have completed many cards in April for all of the graduations I have coming up! My daughters are a junior in high school and a freshman in college, so we have a lot of family friends graduating this year. I love that I can easily match the cards to school themes. I made this card for our friend Taylor who will be attending Missouri Valley College next year!

The above card feature Heather’s new stamps The Tassle and Star Fall Background with The Tassle die in Candy Corn and Jelly Donut. I added some silver metallic stars, but after adding the photos, I see they appear black.  oops.

Another new stamp from this release is the Grid Background stamp! I have wanted a grid stamp like this for about a year, and I was so happy to see this one in Taylor’s new release. Here I stamped the grid in clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white. I used the square to watercolor, and I love how it turned out! The sentiment is the Thanks die cut from black cardstock and Thanks background mixed media die cut from vellum.

Super fun way to do mindless watercolor and turn them into little works of heart!

One last card to share today featuring The Tassel and Star Fall Background. So fast and fun in a Pineapple and Oreo combination. This one is in honor of my Alma Mater, the Wichita State University Shockers!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog  today! I do have two more projects to share tomorrow. It’s a close call, but they may be my favorites! I hope you’ll stop back by!

Thinking of You – WINNERS

Thank you so much for the many wonderful ideas and comments you left as part of my Seasons Givings Blog Hop! I loved reading through your answers. And, thank you for your patience with me in announcing the winners today – below in  this post! .

As a thank you for all, I wanted to share this Thinking of You watercolor hydrangea image from Taylored Expressions.

I’m in love with my Daniel Smith watercolor. Artist grade watercolor is an investment, and I’ve loved learning about each of these pigments.  I’m traveling in the next few weeks, and this palette is perfect for home or away!

The small palette is available here. It’s approximately 5″ x 3″ size. The description says that it holds 12 half pans, but I’ve removed the metal grid and found holds 21 half pans. It folds up sleek and fits into a small cosmetic bag with these wonderful travel brushes from Escoda. I use a fun tack putty to hold the pans to the tins, but some people prefer to glue magnets to the bottom of each half pan.

One thing about purchasing watercolor is the quality brands are sold in tube form, and can be squirted to palette or dried and cured in a pan that is reactivated with misted or brushed water. I choose to get more bang for my buck by purchasing cured 1/2 pans from my friend Lydia. Let me know in the comments if you’d like more info for her Facebook group dedicated to collections of Daniel Smith!

This Hydrangea Big Blooms from Taylored Expressions was stamped with clear distress ink and embossed with Taylored Expressions Diamond embossing powder on Arches 140# cold press watercolor paper . There are many sizes of watercolor sheets available, and I prefer the pad with a green label.  Hydrandgea was then watercolored with Quinacridone Purple, Sap Green and Quinacridone Gold – all Daniel Smith. I love the vibrant color! Once the flower and leaves dried after watercolor, I cut with the Hydrangea Big Blooms matching dies.  The cutting plate underneath is Quilted Backdrop – a favorite from Lawn Fawn.

Now on to my winners! YAY! LOVED, LOVED all of your comments and aspirations for the new year! Make sure you are devoting time daily (if you can!) or weekly to your dreams!

Drum roll, please…. Winner of The Ton package – Heather Mills!

Winner of the Casual Fridays and coffee sets is Neeta Rancourt!

Congratulations to both of my winners! I have emailed both of you at the email registered with your comments! Thank you so much!

Thank you again to all of you for hopping along with Seasons Givings! I love this hop, and I wish you all the best in your creative pursuits of the new year! I’m participating in a wonderful Carolyn Gavin  31-day watercolor challenge (meaning you have a prompt and work at your own speed!)  right now that I love at CreativeBug – so I hope to be back soon to share some sketches!

Happy New Year!

Seasons Givings 2019

Welcome to Seasons Givings 2019 Blog Hop!  After the hustle and bustle, it’s always nice to relax, reflect and look at pretty inspiration! I’m glad you stopped by to help me ring in the New Year!

Seasons Givings is a way for artist in the papercraft community to spread new year cheer and gifts with all of you! You may have arrived via my dear friend and Splitcoast team member, Lydia Fiedler – she’s so awesome, but the hop starts HERE if you’d like to go back to the beginning!

I do have two fun giveaways after I share  a few fun cards that I finished this fall.

First up is this bright Fall Floral hello made with stamps and dies from Taylored Expressions. I love this Fall Florals set because the colors can be changed making most of the images work for any season, and the solid art makes for quick and easy stamping.

The Hello Script and Hello Script Backer die (cut from vellum!) are universal! Sure to cheer up anyone on your list! I’ve arranged and backed the florals and greetings on the Subway Tile embossed white layer. It’s like beautiful subway graffiti!

One more fall card from Taylored Expressions – this beauty was fun to color with Copic markers, and splattered with a bit of background texture. The image and sentiment are from Cutting Edge Fall. When I was grabbing links, I realized Taylor is having a Copic sale right now! Copic marker prices are increasing slightly, but Taylor’s are on sale through January 7th.

Copic colors: Y32/Y35/YR02/YR04/YR08/E33/E35/YG93/YG95

NOW HOW ABOUT A GIVE AWAY OR TWO!

I have two stamp/die collections. This first one features the cutest coffee set with dies from Sugar Pea designs, and the second stamp set is the adorable hot air balloon from Casual Fridays!

My second bundle includes a cute pumpkin spice stamp and die set from Pink & Main with this gorgeous floral – perfect for Copic Marker or watercolor from The Ton!

TO ENTER MY GIVEAWAY, please leave a comment and let me know what crafty thing you would like to learn or perfect in the new year! I’ll choose two random winners and post on Monday, January 7, 2019!

Merry!

IMG_6247

At a weekend retreat a few days ago, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Taylor… and in her bag of tricks was the brand new Taylored Expressions release that is available today. I immediately swooped up this Big Ornament stamp and die combo, started stamping and painting away!

IMG_6248

My image is stamped on Sugar Cube cardstock and embossed with White Embossing Powder. Then I set to watercolor all of the beautiful detail on this bulb. I worked from the top of the bulb to color, and it was surprisingly easy, just alternating colors as I worked toward the bottom.  Love the rich, watercolors.

The bulb was popped with X-Press It High Tack double-sided foam tape on a Confetti Cake cardstock layer, stamped with a new holiday background frame called Twiggy.  Plenty of versatility with this one!

The sweet MERRY sentiment is a new large die with a Merry Mixed Media Script background – that I cut from Vellum. For the vellum adhesive, I used X-Press It 2-way Glue Pen. Added bling was a gift from Studio Katia! Love the glimmer and shimmer!

So many pretty things in the Taylored Expressions release today – I’m especially looking forward to a deer head die that I saw peeking from Taylor’s stash! I know I’ll be shopping…

Hope you have a beautiful Thursday!

Getting Technical

Alcohol Smash Technique Lori Craig

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to attend the fabulous UNWIND retreat with Lydia Fiedler. The retreat was so fun because I was able to try a lot of new-to-me-techniques. I was most excited about using my Gel Press because I’ve had it for a longtime, but was super intimidated to bring it out in my craft room!

I needed some “purple” cards in a pinch this week. I don’t know what I’ve been waiting for! The Gel Press comes clean with your lift prints and the brayer is easy to rinse and wipe off.

Here’s how I did it:

  1. rolled a very thin layer of white acrylic paint onto my Gel Press with a brayer.
  2. dropped Copic Various Ink refills over the white paint and rolled again with my brayer – you have to work quickly with the alcohol inks
  3. stack a stencil over both the white acrylic and alcohol ink onto the Gel Press – here I’ve used Chevon Arrow Stencil from Taylored Expressions
  4. applied cardstock over the stack on the Gel Press and lift – the first print I used for the card on the left
  5. lift the first print and then the stencil – and press a second piece of cardstock to the Gel Press – this is the print I used for the card on the right
  6. applied both prints to cardstock bases and added sentiments

My sentiments were made with Thanks Script in Plum Punch cardstock and Thanks Script Backer in vellum – both from Taylored Expressions.

Love how quick and easy these were to make!

Happy 10th Birthday to Taylored Expressions!

TEReunionHopGraphic2018

Can you even believe it?! Celebrating 10 CRAZY FUN BEAUTIFUL YEARS for Taylored Expressions today! Almost 40 designers celebrating today, and the fun starts HERE.

IMG_5571

I am so honored to share with you today and say, ‘Happy 10th Birthday’ to my friends at Taylored Expressions!  10 amazing years of papercrafting with adorable, adorable stamps – back before we even had coordinating dies to match our stamps! Can you even believe that travesty? We use to fussy cut the layers!

I have been stamping with Taylored Expressions from the very first release, and last night I took a trip down memory lane – through 10 years of favorite projects. I remember seeing the very first stamp concepts while sharing dessert with Taylor at Summer CHA in Chicago – 2008.  The excitement over her opening her very own stamp company was so strong!

IMG_5569

Between my top card and this one, I was able to get 10 candles from the adorable Make a Wish set on my card fronts in honor of this incredible milestone. For this card, I cut the candle dies from watercolor paper and applied watercolor. Fast and easy! On all three of my cards for today, I’ve also used Frame in Frame Cutting Plate 2. – it’s pretty much my favorite. Here I’ve paired it with Dotted Lattice embossing folder, and kraft cardstock.

I can’t imagine a birthday party without surprises, so take a minute to see the fun new stamps for the BIRTHDAY RELEASE!

Usually milestone parties call for slideshows of old pictures, so I’ve dug up a few! 😉

And because it can’t be a party without balloons! I have one final card to share with you using the awesome Bold Balloons stamps and dies with Taylored Expressions inks: Guava, Pink Champagne, Pineapple and Candy Corn on my favorite Sugar Cube cardstock. with a Chevron Arrow Stencil Accent.

One more thing I wanted to mention, is the touching TE Mission to SHARE JOY with handcrafted cards. I hope you join in the celebration! Here’s a message from Taylor,

At the heart of Taylored Expressions is a mission to share joy through the gift of handmade cards. As part of their 10th birthday TE is continuing that mission with the launch of a special Share Joy campaign focused on providing birthday cards to those in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities across the U.S. To make as deep an impact as possible TE is inviting card makers everywhere to join the campaign. Will you join us? Find out how to participate by viewing their Share Joy page here: https://www.tayloredexpressions.com/share-joy-birthday-2018

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing the TE excitement with me! I hope you enjoy the party as much as I already have!

Happy Birthday, Taylored Expressions

My hope is built…

Lori Craig Taylored Expressions Jesus Hope

May your hope be solid with the gift of Easter…

It’s feeling anything but spring today in the midwest, sunny and 60 yesterday – feels like 19 today. Picked this card out of my finished pile this afternoon, and it surely brought a spring smile!

I made this card at a retreat several weeks ago. This sentiment is from Taylored Expressions, Words of Faith… LOVE IT. I embossed on Sugar Cube cardstock with Gold Embossing Powder, and I’ve paired it here with accents from the Fresh Florals stamp and die combo with the Ornate Frame Cutting Plate on Kraft card stock.

Wishing you and yours a beautiful day, resting and trusting in the promise of Jesus’ resurrection this Easter Sunday, and always.  Blessings ~

Happy Camper

Happy Camper

Lest anyone think I’ve disappeared over the last few weeks… I’m still here. Happy Camper!

Last weekend I had an opportunity to “retreat” with 17 of my stamping friends at the Whatever Craft House in Newton, KS. I made a lot of cards, including this one! I’m going to send it to my cousin, as we enjoy camping together in the summer! She’s got the cutest little Minnie Winnie travel trailer.

I bought a new-to-me used trailer this winter – one weekend when my husband was out hunting. LOL That’s a fun story! I can’t share most of it in writing. I like being married! But, I will say, you can bet I’ll have a little nook for my markers when we take it out for the first camp of the season this year!

FullSizeRender (3)

At any rate – this card was for my cousin Terri with the Minnie Winnie – I like saying that! LOL

I stamped the Avery Elle Glamper Camper on XPress It Blending Card, colored with my favorite yellow Copic combo (Y32/Y35/Y38) and cut with the coordinating die.

One of the great things about the retreat – the best is the people – but second best is sharing supplies and trying new things! I was able to test drive the Ranger Distress Oxide Inks! The background was blended with Pistachio and Salty Ocean – swirling around – no brush strokes. Love that blended butter-smooth look!

FullSizeRender (2)

After blending the background, I cut the HAPPY from Taylored Expressions HAPPY Block Party – LOVE these dies because you can place them anywhere on your card front! So many words! So fun! I added a few cuts from the Skinny Mini Party Borders, a kraft flag and twine. Called it good and in the mail!

Happy Camper

So, that’s my happy and glad to be sharing for a Tuesday! I’m headed to Vancouver, BC to teach Copic certification this weekend, and I have one more Copic Workshop – new hand lettering, coloring animals and landscapes coming up in Anaheim in two weeks before the summer break! Come and color with me! Looking forward to it!

Have a GREAT Tuesday!
