Love You! Mean It!

HYCCT1501C-LoriCraig

My favorite card making month is here! It’s time for our wonderful cancer support and awareness campaign at Splitcoaststampers: Hope You Can Cling To!

This is a card that I created for my challenge that I am hosting today. You can find the details on my challenge and how to share in the fun HERE. You will see links for a welcome message, how to participate and the Master Challenge List! Hope You Can Cling To is a full month long campaign with fun challenges each day, lots of inspiration, and thousands of dollars worth of  prizes from amazing sponsors up for grabs. I hope you’ll carve out some time to participate!

To create my card, I used a fun new set from Concord & 9th called Love You! Mean It!  Lots of fun elements to this sweet set! And, I **LOVED** getting my inks out and stamping! It feels like that hadn’t happened with colored inks in a long, long time!

Thankfully, I’ve carved out a lot of crafting time for this month. I hope you find a few minutes here and there to play along, as well!

Thanks for stopping by! See you tomorrow!

Sunflowers Everywhere & a Save the Date

After my last share with the sunflower card, I made a trip to a beautiful sunflower farm in northeast Kansas near my parents’ home. Sixty-five acres of glorious Kansas gold.

As promised, I thought I’d share some photos of that glorious morning.

My mom and I went early in the morning, and it was mesmerizing… pink clouds at the horizon, and we had to wait for a light fog to lift. This guy was busy as a … well, you know.

I’d never really seen anything like this before, and I came home wanting to till up our entire yard and scatter seeds. <sigh>

In stamping news… the sunflowers have quickly faded, and our large cancer awareness campaign at Splitcoaststampers will be starting soon! Save the dates now to join us every day in October. So much fun, inspiration and prizes!
See you soon!

Play it Again

get-well-soon

I made this for a friend during Dare to Get Dirty at Splitcoast last week, but I’ve been plagued with internet issues for what seems like months. I really should have mailed it to myself.

Lori-Thread-Sample

I dusted off one of my oldest stamp sets – Nice and Easy Notes from Stampin’ Up! (1996) and gave  it some new life with Copic, dies and fresher embellishments.

I think that’s the hallmark of a good stamp set – timeless image and message. So fun to play it again!

Dare to Get Dirty – Time to SHINE

Sparkle-Close-500x500

It’s one of my favorite Splitcoast weeks, and I was thrilled to get into my studio for some much needed paper therapy last week to prep for DARE TO GET DIRTY challenges and events! Our sponsors have offered some amazing prizes for this special week, and I hope you’ll join us for fun!

I’m hosting a challenge, along with dozens of dirty girls to celebrate! If you are a Splitcoast Fan Club member, start HERE! If you are not a Fan Club member yet, start HERE.

This little notecard set was a gift for one of my girlfriend’s birthday. It’s a rainbow set of “sparkle and shine” cards with a fun sentiment tag. I used a few different new-to-me tools for this project, so I thought I’d share a few details.

misti-1

Because I was making a set of cards, I wanted the sentiment placement on each to be consistent, and I took the wrapping off of my new MISTI – stamp positioning tool. I’ve been a Stamp-a-ma-jig supporter forever, but I will say this thing is revolutionary.

misti-2

It was so easy to line up this sweet sentiment from Verve’s Sparkly Dreams, stamp, swap to new piece of cardstock, re-stamp (I wiped ink between each impression to swap ink colors. EASY and accurate!) On two of the colors, I needed to re-ink for a deeper impression, and that was a breeze with no shadows.

misti-3

Nine notecards with a perfectly placed sentiment on each one in probably less than 9 minutes. Really impressed with the MISTI – no pun intended.

sparkle-1

Next to the sweet sentiment, I wanted to add a little detail that would let the sentiment shine, but not be overly fussy. So I used XPress It Adhesive Sheets to cut accent pieces with Butterfly Dreams die from Verve. In my Vagabond, the dies cut the detailed wings and tentacles from the adhesive sheets perfectly. Peeling the protective layer (with the printing on the back) from the cut butterflies, I adhere them to my notecards and rub with my finger to make sure all of the edges stick to the card stock.

sparkle-2

I peeled the protective layer from the adhesive sheets.

sparkle-3

And sprinkle with glitter – I use Cool Diamond from Elizabeth Craft. It’s super smooth after application, and though I’m not coloring here, it’s very friendly and accepting to Copic color over the top. My favorite glitter.

sparkle-4

Using a small scrap of clean copy paper, cover the glitter and press firmly to smash it into the adhesive sheet. Glide the paper around and press over the entire die cut of adhesive to make sure you ‘catch’ glitter in all of the sticky spots.

sparkle-5

Look how crisp the adhesive sheet’s retention of the fine glitter is! Love this look for a easy WOW! That’s it.. my notecards were done, and moving on to the gift tag!

twin

I’ve been playing with the Kirarina 2win Markers … there are 18 water based pens, double tipped with a different color and nib size on each pen for 36 different colors.

kirarina-1

Copic introduced these markers at the CHA winter show last January…  Here I used a combination of blues and greens scribbled on a kraft mat.

kirarina-2

I dipped a piece of water color cardstock into the splotchy ink once, misted the sheet with water and dipped it again. (Watercolor paper or cardstock has a tendency to roll when wet. Just hit it with your heat gun and it will flatten back out as it dries.)

kirarina-3

I ran that piece of cardstock through my Vagabond with a Pierced Traditional Tag Stax dienamic from MFT.

Sparkle-Close-500x500

I added a freehand-lettered sentiment – a hobby I’ve been practicing by mimicking favored styles I find on Pinterest. It’s this kind of confidence booster that will give you the courage to try your own hand.

doodle-tools

These are a few of the tools I keep in my doodling pouch… a collection of Multiliner pens – with different tip widths and rulers – Metal rulers are my favorite for crisp edges – the long one has been with me since my journalism classes in college … with a great mechanical pencil and white polymer eraser… you can undo a multitude of sins with a good eraser!

Sparkle-Full-500x500

Finished up with some sequins, ribbon bits and a cello bag, it honestly took me longer to type this blog post than to craft my friend’s gift… You gotta love that!

Make sure you join us for Dare to Get Dirty. We’d love to see you strut your stuff this week with our designers! All of the initial details are HERE.

Back soon! Have a GREAT day!

What fun I had coloring this little guy for Kathy’s Hope You Can Cling To challenge. Paper Smooches Cuteasaurus stamp made working with her concept a snap!

We are about mid-way through the month of challenges at Splitcoast, and there are over $5,000 in prizes from incredible sponsors up for grabs… I hope you find time to join us in this awesome awareness campaign. I know the recipients of these cards are always touched!

I’m also getting ready for my last Copic coloring class of the 2014 year, next month in Indy. We have several locations left, so check out the schedule and see if you might be able to join us. We’d love to see you!

Stay Positive! Be Brave!

HYCCT1408

When we kicked off our 5th annual Hope You Can Cling To card drive campaign at Splitcoaststampers last week on October 1st, never did I imagine the immediate or profound sense of HOPE that would be reel through my small little community…overnight.

But I live in midwest, small town America. Out here on the prairie… we know our neighbors, we work with them, go to church with them, see them at hometown sporting events, chit chat hi in the grocery store and say hi in the restaurant on Friday night. And, when your small town friend takes her 11 year old son to the doctor for flu-like symptoms last week, comes home 2 days later with a liver and pancreatic cancer diagnosis and starts an aggressive round of chemo 4 days after that … you better believe that small town America is clinging to HOPE and rallying into action.

Our friend has a form of cancer that is extremely rare in anyone under the age of 18. His story has quickly gathered attention worldwide through one of his classmate’s social media campaign Porch Light Prayer, and the Kansas City news stations covered his story last night. Feel free to join us in Porch Light Prayer, and be sure to post a photo of your porch light and where you are in the world!

My Hope You Can Cling To challenge card for today is for #92… a rough and tumbling, football lovin’ 11 year old who’s birthday is tomorrow! Stay positive! Be brave!

HYCCT Blinking

I hope you are finding time to share a little hope this month. We have daily Hope You Can Cling To challenges, a great collaborative partnership with the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and thanks to generous sponsors, over $5,000 in prizes to be given away at the end of the month.

Thanks to my dear friend, Marianne Walker for drawing and personalizing the Ayden image for me. She’s amazing like that… and I’m grateful.

Stay positive! Be brave!

Happy Saturday! This is my card for Holly’s Hope You Can Cling To challenge. Fun one, for sure!

One thing I realized while making this card is that I have entirely too many pads of patterned paper. Many may or may not be unused… Maggie Holmes paper by Crate. Fun and easy card to make.

HYCCT Blinking

I hope you’ll stop by our Hope You Can Cling To challenge forum… a lot of paper and inky love being shared over there this month… and thousands of dollars in prizes.

Have a great weekend!

Hold on… Groovy

Groovy HYYCT1401C

Just popping in real quick this morning to share my card for Dina’s Hope You Can Cling To challenge from yesterday! I enjoyed this one!

I used a few fun sets from Verve for this… Surely Goodness and Holiday Treats and the Cup of Cheer dies. The kraft label was made with Taylor’s Label Stacklets 2 – a must have die set, in my humble opinion.

HYCCT Blinking

I hope you’ll take a minute to check into the Hope You Can Cling To forum. Lots of great cancer awareness discussion, general chatter, challenges and thousands of dollars in prizes available this month.

I’ll be back tomorrow. Have a GREAT day!

Lydia’s challenge…was a challenge

tole HYCCT1401A close

Lydia is hosting a challenge for Hope You Can Cling To that really had me trying something new. Isn’t that was challenges are all about? To encourage you to try something different…new? This was paper tole… I love the end result, and when I do it again, I’ll probably choose a little bit bigger image, and use my reading glasses! LOL

HYCCT Blinking

thanks HYCCT1401B

The image is from a sweet set from Lili of the Valley called Summer Bears. I colored the image with Copic Marker. The ‘thanks’ was a gift with purchase die from Taylored Expressions.

Take a stab at it, and join us this month! You’ll enjoy the challenges, meet some new friends, lots of great recipes in the Recipe Box thread – you know, so you can throw something together at the last minute when you’ve been stamping instead of cooking) 🙂 and help share hope with people who are looking for hope.

Hope You Can Cling To!

Welcome to Hope You Can Cling To

SHINE HYCCT1401B

It’s here. Hope You Can Cling To is here. It is such a special time at Splitcoaststampers when we spend a lot of time creating and crafting in honor of cancer patients and their families…sharing hope one card at a time.

HYCCT Blinking

To kick things off today, I am hosting a challenge. You can find the details right here, and I hope you’ll join us! My challenge is on post #2, but I encourage you to participate in as many as you can because there are many fabulous creative sparking ideas and literally thousands of dollars in prizes up for grabs at the end of the month.

SHINE full HYCCT1401B

Cancer is dark and ugly, but hope shines bright! And my challenge is about hope for a cure, hope for a future, hope for support and encouragement. My challenge to SHINE ON! To use an image that evokes shine in some form or fashion. I love the Watt’s Up set and coordinating Lightbulb Dienamic from MFT, and in this case it was perfect for my challenge.

I used a Copic Airbrush and marker Y38 to airbrush behind a vellum lightbulb and some clear fine glitter for extra SHINE.

Join us this month! You’ll enjoy the challenges, meet some new friends, maybe find a fun new recipe in the What’s for Dinner chat thread 🙂 and help share hope with people who are facing dark situation. All month long, let your light SHINE.
